Ring Video Sharing - Share, Download, and User Access Management

Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer wants to share a recorded Ring video, download a video clip, send a video link, or provide another user access to Ring recordings.

Customer Symptoms

Customer wants to:

  • Share a Ring video
  • Download a Ring recording
  • Send a video by text or email
  • Share a video link
  • Give another person access to recordings
  • Allow another user to view future videos
  • Troubleshoot video sharing issues

Understanding Ring Video Sharing

Ring recorded videos can be shared in several ways:

  • Share a video link
  • Download and send the video file
  • Share directly through supported apps
  • Grant another user access to view recordings

The video must exist in Event History before it can be shared.

Requirements

Before sharing a video:

  • The recording must be available in Event History.
  • The video must not have been deleted.
  • Customer must have permission to access the recording.
  • A compatible Ring subscription may be required for video storage and sharing features.

Share a Video from the Ring App

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Navigate to History.
  3. Locate the recording you want to share.
  4. Select the More (•••) menu.
  5. Select Share.
  6. Choose a sharing method.

Available options may include:

  • Link sharing
  • Text message
  • Email
  • Download

Share a Video from Ring.com

  1. Sign in to Ring.com.
  2. Open History.
  3. Select the desired recording.
  4. Select Share.
  5. Choose the preferred sharing method.

Download a Recorded Video

Download from the Ring App

  1. Open History.
  2. Locate the recording.
  3. Select More (•••).
  4. Select Download.
  5. Save the file to the device.

Download from Ring.com

  1. Open History.
  2. Select the desired recording.
  3. Select Download.
  4. Save the file to the computer.

Share Access with Another Ring User

If a customer wants another person to access future recordings:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select User Permissions.
  4. Select Invite User.
  5. Enter the user's information.
  6. Choose the devices or location to share.
  7. Send the invitation.

Once accepted, the user can access recordings according to their assigned permissions.

Troubleshooting Steps

Video Cannot Be Shared

  1. Verify the recording exists in Event History.
  2. Verify the recording has not been deleted.
  3. Verify account permissions.
  4. Verify subscription status if required.

Download Option Missing

  1. Verify the recording is available.
  2. Verify account permissions.
  3. Update the Ring app if necessary.
  4. Try downloading from Ring.com.

User Cannot View Shared Content

  1. Verify the invitation was accepted.
  2. Verify the correct permissions were assigned.
  3. Verify the user is signed into their Ring account.
  4. Test access again.

Privacy Considerations

Before sharing videos:

  • Review the recording for sensitive information.
  • Be aware of visible faces, vehicles, license plates, and property details.
  • Share recordings only with authorized individuals.
  • Follow local privacy and recording regulations.

Expected Outcome

Customer can successfully share Ring recordings, download video files, send video links, or provide authorized users access to view future recordings and events.
