Use this procedure when a customer wants to connect a Ring Chime, Chime Plus, or Chime Pro to Ring devices, customize alert sounds, adjust volume settings, or temporarily silence notifications.
Customer Symptoms
Customer wants to:
- Link a Chime to a Ring doorbell
- Link a Chime to a Ring camera
- Receive indoor notification sounds
- Hear motion alerts through a Chime
- Hear doorbell rings through a Chime
- Link a Chime Plus to a Ring Sensor
- Change Chime alert tones
- Adjust Chime volume
- Temporarily silence Chime notifications
Understanding Chime Alerts
Ring Chime devices provide audible alerts inside the home when activity occurs on connected Ring devices.
Supported alert types may include:
- Doorbell Rings
- Motion Detected
- Sensor Open Notifications
- Sensor Closed Notifications
Customers can customize tones and notification behavior for each linked device.

Link a Chime to a Ring Camera or Doorbell
- Open the Ring app.
- Select Devices.
- Select the Ring Camera or Doorbell.
- Select Linked Chimes.
- Choose the desired alert type:
- Doorbell Rings
- Motion Detected
- Select the music note icon to preview tones.
- Select the preferred tone.
- Save changes.
Link a Chime Plus to a Ring Sensor
- Open the Ring app.
- Select Devices.
- Select the desired Ring Sensor.
- Select Linked Chime.
- Choose the notification type:
- Open
- Closed
- Select the music note icon to preview tones.
- Save changes.
Customize Chime Tones
- Open the Ring app.
- Select the Chime device.
- Open Device Settings.
- Select Audio Settings.
- Select Chime Tones.
- Choose the event type:
- Doorbell Rings
- Motion Detected
- Other supported events
- Select the desired sound.
- Save changes.
Adjust Chime Volume
- Open the Ring app.
- Select the Chime device.
- Open Device Settings.
- Select Audio Settings.
- Adjust the volume level.
- Save changes.
Use Chime Snooze
Chime Snooze temporarily silences Chime notifications.
Enable Chime Snooze
- Open the Ring app.
- Select the Chime device.
- Open Device Settings.
- Select Chime Snooze.
- Select the desired snooze duration.
- Save changes.
Disable Chime Snooze
- Open the Ring app.
- Select the Chime device.
- Open Device Settings.
- Select Chime Snooze.
- Select Turn Off Snooze.
- Save changes.
Troubleshooting Steps
Chime Not Playing Alerts
- Verify the Chime is online.
- Verify the Chime is linked to the correct device.
- Verify alert types are enabled.
- Test the selected tone.
- Save settings and test again.
Motion Alerts Not Playing
- Open Linked Chimes.
- Verify Motion Detected is enabled.
- Save settings.
- Trigger a motion event and test.
Doorbell Rings Not Playing
- Open Linked Chimes.
- Verify Doorbell Rings is enabled.
- Save settings.
- Test the doorbell button.
Chime Volume Too Low
- Open Audio Settings.
- Increase volume.
- Save changes.
- Test notifications again.
Expected Outcome
The Ring Chime, Chime Plus, or Chime Pro successfully plays audible alerts for linked Ring devices, uses customized tones, provides the desired notification volume, and can be temporarily silenced using Chime Snooze when needed.
