Category: Home/Away Assist > Presence Detection
Answer:
Home/Away Assist can use your phone’s location to help determine whether someone is home or away. Using phone location improves the accuracy of automatic Home and Away status changes for compatible Google Nest devices.
Enable or Disable Phone Location
- Open the Nest app.
- Tap Settings.
- Select Home/Away Assist.
- Tap What decides if you're at home.
- Select Use Phone Location.
- Tap the switch to expand the menu.
- Select your name.
- Turn Use Phone Location On or Off.
Important Notes
• Each person can only use one phone for Home/Away Assist.
• If you enable phone location on a different phone, it will automatically disable location sharing on the previous device.
• Every person with shared access to the Nest home must manage their own phone location settings.
• You cannot enable or disable location services for other users.
Using Google Home and Nest Apps
• Phone location can only be shared through one app at a time.
• If phone location is enabled in the Google Home app, it will automatically be disabled in the Nest app.
• If phone location is enabled in the Nest app, it cannot be simultaneously enabled in the Google Home app.
Additional Information
• Home/Away Assist may use phone location, Wi-Fi data, mobile location services, and compatible Nest device activity to determine occupancy.
• Disabling phone location may reduce the accuracy of automatic Home and Away detection.
• Turning off location services in your phone’s operating system settings may affect Home/Away Assist and other apps that rely on location data.
Recommended Use
Enable phone location on the device you carry most often to improve Home/Away Assist accuracy and ensure your Nest devices respond correctly when you leave or return home.
