- Zigbee is a wireless communication standard, not a hardware manufacturer. Devices are produced by hundreds of companies, including Philips Hue, Aqara, IKEA, SONOFF, SmartThings, Tuya, Third Reality, Innr, Sengled, and many others.
- Every Zigbee network requires a coordinator (hub or gateway). Mains-powered Zigbee devices such as smart plugs, wall switches, and in-wall dimmers typically function as routers, extending the mesh network. Battery-powered devices generally act as end devices and do not repeat signals.
- Zigbee's self-healing mesh network automatically reroutes communications when a device becomes unavailable, improving reliability and coverage as additional powered devices are added.
- Zigbee 3.0 provides broad interoperability across certified devices, although some manufacturers implement proprietary features that may require their own hub or application for full functionality.
