Purpose
This overview serves as the SmartHomeConcierge.ai master reference for the Aqara FP2 Presence Sensor. It provides a comprehensive summary of the FP2's mmWave radar technology, presence detection, room mapping, zone automation, multi-person tracking, smart home integrations, firmware management, and common configuration categories used by SmartHomeConcierge.ai technicians when assisting customers and creating device-specific configuration articles.
Unlike traditional PIR motion sensors that only detect movement, the Aqara FP2 uses 60 GHz millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar to continuously detect human presence, including small movements such as breathing or shifting while sitting. This allows automations to remain active while someone is still in a room instead of turning lights off simply because motion has stopped. The FP2 connects directly to Wi-Fi and does not require an Aqara Hub. It supports Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant, SmartThings (via Matter), and other compatible smart home platforms.
