Created by Lamont Gibson, Modified on Sat, 20 Jun at 5:30 PM by Lamont Gibson

Overview

Schedule Assistant helps optimize your thermostat schedule by comparing your programmed schedule to your actual occupancy patterns.

Using occupancy data collected over time, Schedule Assistant may recommend schedule adjustments that can improve comfort when you're home and reduce energy usage when you're away.

Requirements

Supported Thermostats

Most ecobee thermostats support Schedule Assistant through eco+.

ecobee3 lite Requirement

The ecobee3 lite does not include a built-in occupancy sensor.

To use Schedule Assistant with an ecobee3 lite, you must have:

  • Two or more paired SmartSensors

Enable or Disable Schedule Assistant

Using the ecobee App

  1. Open the ecobee app.
  2. Tap Home.
  3. Select your thermostat.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Select eco+.
  6. Tap Schedule Assistant.
  7. Choose:
    • Enable
    • Disable

How Schedule Assistant Works

Schedule Assistant analyzes occupancy patterns detected by your ecobee sensors over approximately five weeks.

The feature compares:

  • Actual occupancy patterns
  • Current thermostat schedule

If occupancy patterns consistently differ from your programmed schedule, ecobee may send an email recommending schedule adjustments.

Schedule Recommendations

Recommendations may include:

  • Earlier Home periods
  • Later Away periods
  • Adjusted Sleep schedules
  • Other occupancy-based schedule improvements

These recommendations are optional and do not need to be accepted.

Important Notes

Recommendations May Not Reflect Permanent Changes

Some recommendations may be based on temporary changes in your routine.

Examples include:

  • Vacation periods
  • Holidays
  • Temporary work schedule changes
  • Guests staying in the home

Review recommendations carefully before accepting them.

Schedule Updates May Take Time

After accepting a recommendation:

  • Changes may not appear immediately.
  • It may take several days before the updated schedule is fully reflected on the thermostat.

Occupancy Detection Required

Schedule Assistant relies on occupancy detection from compatible ecobee sensors.

If occupancy data is unavailable or limited, recommendations may not be generated.
