Answer:

The Alexa app provides guided instructions to help install and wire your Amazon Smart Thermostat.

Before You Begin

  1. Verify compatibility with your HVAC system.
  2. Download and sign in to the Alexa app.
  3. Gather the included wire labels.
  4. Turn off power to the HVAC system at the breaker.

Important

• Always disconnect power before handling thermostat wiring.
• Verify power is off before removing the existing thermostat.
• Do not touch exposed wire ends.
• If you are uncomfortable working with HVAC wiring, contact a licensed HVAC technician.

Check for High-Voltage Systems

Amazon Smart Thermostat is not compatible with high-voltage systems.

Common signs of a high-voltage system include:

• Labels showing 110V or 220V
• Wires labeled L1 or L2
• Wire nuts connecting thermostat wires

If any of these are present, do not proceed with installation.

Remove the Existing Thermostat

  1. Remove the thermostat faceplate.
  2. Take a clear photo of the existing wiring.
  3. Record all terminal labels and wire locations.

Label the Existing Wires

  1. Disconnect one wire at a time.
  2. Apply the matching wire label provided with the thermostat.
  3. Continue until all wires are labeled.
  4. Prevent wires from falling back into the wall.

Verify a C-Wire Is Available

The C-wire provides continuous power to the thermostat.

If a C-wire already exists:

• Connect it to the C terminal.

If an unused wire is available:

  1. Label the unused wire as C.
  2. Connect the other end to the HVAC control board C terminal.
  3. Connect the thermostat end to the C terminal.

If no C-wire or spare wire is available:

• Install a compatible C-Wire Adapter.

Install the Wall Plate

  1. Remove the old thermostat wall plate.
  2. Install the optional trim plate if desired.
  3. Mount the Amazon Smart Thermostat wall plate.
  4. Pull all labeled wires through the opening.

Connect the Wiring

  1. Insert each labeled wire into the matching terminal.
  2. Verify each wire is fully seated.
  3. Gently tug each wire to confirm a secure connection.
  4. Ensure the R terminal switch remains in the UP position.

Finish Installation

  1. Close the wire cover.
  2. Align the thermostat faceplate with the wall plate.
  3. Press gently until the thermostat clicks into place.

Restore Power

  1. Turn HVAC power back on at the breaker.
  2. Wait for the thermostat to start.

Successful Installation

The thermostat should display:

• "SEt"
or
• The current temperature

Troubleshooting

If the display remains blank:

  1. Turn off HVAC power.
  2. Remove the thermostat faceplate.
  3. Verify all wiring connections.
  4. Reinstall the thermostat.
  5. Restore power and test again.

Good to Know

• Taking a photo of the original wiring before removal is strongly recommended.
• Most installation issues are caused by incorrect wiring or missing C-wire power.
• The Alexa app provides step-by-step installation guidance based on your specific HVAC wiring configuration.
