Overview
Google Assistant uses activity settings to provide personalized responses, device control, voice recognition, and other smart home features. These settings can be managed through your Google Account and the Google Home app.
Important: Sign in with the same Google Account that is connected to your Nest devices and Google Assistant.
Google Assistant Activity Controls
The following activity controls may be enabled to improve Assistant functionality and personalization.
Web & App Activity
Stores activity from Google apps and services to provide personalized recommendations, search results, and Assistant responses.
App Info From Your Devices
Allows Google Assistant to access information about installed apps on signed-in devices to improve app interactions and voice commands.
Contact Info From Your Devices
Allows Google Assistant to access saved contacts for calling, messaging, and contact-based voice commands.
Voice & Audio Activity
Stores voice recordings associated with Google Assistant interactions to help improve speech recognition and voice processing.
Turn Activity Controls On or Off
- Open your Google Account Settings.
- Sign in using the Google Account linked to your Nest devices.
- Navigate to Data & Privacy.
- Locate the activity setting you want to manage:
- Web & App Activity
- Voice & Audio Activity
- App Info From Devices
- Contact Info From Devices
- Turn the setting On or Off as desired.
Changes apply across Google Assistant and other supported Google services connected to the account.
View Google Assistant Activity History
You can review previous Google Assistant activity through the Google Home app.
Check Activity History
- Open the Google Home app.
- Tap your Profile Picture.
- Tap Home Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Home History.
A list of Google Assistant activity associated with the home will be displayed.
View Activity Details
To review additional information about a specific activity:
- Open Home History.
- Locate the activity.
- Tap the Three-Dot Menu.
- Tap Details.
Details may include the date, time, and device involved.
Delete Activity History
To remove an activity from your Google Assistant history:
- Open Home History.
- Locate the activity.
- Tap the Three-Dot Menu.
- Tap Delete.
- Confirm deletion.
Troubleshooting Assistant Privacy Requests
If Google Assistant responds with messages such as:
"To get help with that, you'll need to give me some more information."
Verify that:
- You are signed into the correct Google Account.
- Required activity controls are enabled.
- Google Assistant is properly linked to the device.
- Privacy settings have not been disabled.
