Overview
Google Nest speakers and displays allow you to make and receive voice and video calls using supported calling services. Once calling is configured, you can call contacts, businesses, and phone numbers using voice commands or supported display controls.
Important
- Calling must be configured before use.
- Emergency calling is not supported.
- Google Home Max and Nest Wifi Points do not support calling.
- Outgoing group calls are only supported on compatible Nest displays.
- Calls to the same Google Account currently signed into the device are not supported.
Make a Voice Call
Voice calls are supported on compatible Google Nest speakers and displays.
Call a Contact
Say:
"Hey Google, call [contact name]."
Example:
"Hey Google, call John Smith."
Call a Business
Say:
"Hey Google, call [business name]."
Example:
"Hey Google, call Walgreens."
You can also ask:
"Hey Google, where is the nearest pharmacy?"
Then say:
"Hey Google, call them."
Call a Phone Number
Say:
"Hey Google, call [phone number]."
Example:
"Hey Google, call 555-123-4567."
Make a Call from a Nest Display
If Household Contacts have been configured:
- Swipe down from the top of the display.
- Tap Communication.
- Select a contact.
- Tap Call.
The display will start the call using the available calling method.
Make a Video Call
Supported Devices
- Nest Hub Max
- Nest Hub
- Nest Hub (2nd Gen)
Start a Video Call
Say:
"Hey Google, video call [contact name]."
Example:
"Hey Google, video call Sarah."
Using the Display
- Swipe down from the top of the screen.
- Tap Communication.
- Select a Household Contact.
- Tap Video Call.
Start a Group Video Call
Important
Group video calls are available on supported Nest displays.
Start a Group Call
Say:
"Hey Google, start a group call."
Follow the prompts to select participants and begin the meeting.
Receive Calls
Compatible Nest speakers and displays can receive Google Meet calls.
Answer a Call
Say:
"Hey Google, answer the call."
Decline a Call
Say:
"Hey Google, decline the call."
Answer Calls Using Device Controls
Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max
- Tap Answer
- Tap Decline
Google Home
- Tap the top to answer
- Press and hold the top to decline
Nest Audio and Nest Mini
- Tap the center to answer
- Press and hold the center to decline
Google Home Mini
- Tap the side to answer
- Press and hold the side to decline
Mute or Unmute a Call
Nest Displays Only
To mute:
- Tap Mute during the call.
To unmute:
- Tap Unmute.
End a Call with Your Voice
Say:
- "Hey Google, end the call."
- "Hey Google, hang up."
- "Hey Google, stop."
- "Hey Google, disconnect."
End a Call Using Device Controls
Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max
Tap End Call.
Google Home
Tap the top of the device.
Nest Audio and Nest Mini
Tap the center of the device.
Google Home Mini
Tap the side of the device.
Call Restrictions
Calling may not work correctly if:
- Do Not Disturb is enabled.
- Digital Wellbeing restrictions are active.
- Downtime is enabled.
- Voice Match or Personal Results are not configured.
- The device is offline.
Privacy Information
Google does not save call audio or video conversations.
Google may store:
- Call duration
- Call counts
- Technical errors
Google does not retain:
- Call recordings
- Voice conversation content
- Video conversation content
Troubleshooting
Unable to Call a Contact
Verify:
- Calling has been configured.
- Contact information is complete.
- Personal Results are enabled.
- Voice Match is enabled.
Unable to Receive Calls
Verify:
- Google Meet is linked.
- Incoming calls are enabled.
- Do Not Disturb is off.
Calls Not Ringing
Verify:
- Device is online.
- Calling service is connected.
- Presence settings are configured correctly.
