Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer wants to enable call recording, voicemail, Quick Reply greetings, or troubleshoot missing recordings on a Ring Intercom device.

Customer Symptoms

Customer wants to:

  • Enable call recording
  • Enable voicemail
  • Save intercom conversations
  • Record visitor messages
  • Troubleshoot missing recordings
  • Disable recording announcements
  • Adjust voicemail volume
  • Understand recording requirements

Understanding Call Recording and Voicemail

Ring Intercom Video and Ring Intercom Audio support call recording and voicemail when connected to an eligible Ring subscription.

Ring Intercom Video records both video and audio when the building intercom system includes a camera.

Ring Intercom Audio records audio only, even if the building intercom system includes a camera.

Recording begins only when:

  • An intercom call is answered
  • A visitor begins leaving a voicemail message

Calls are not recorded when the intercom button is initially pressed.

A spoken announcement stating "This conversation will be recorded" plays before recording begins.

Requirements

Customer must have:

  • Active Ring subscription
  • Supported Ring Intercom device
  • Call Recording enabled

Without an active Ring subscription:

  • Call recordings are not saved
  • Voicemail messages are not saved

Configuration Steps

Enable Call Recording

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select the Intercom device.
  3. Open Device Settings.
  4. Select Privacy Settings.
  5. Turn on Call Recording.
  6. Save settings.

Enable Voicemail (Quick Reply)

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select the Intercom device.
  3. Open Device Settings.
  4. Select Voicemail.
  5. Enable Quick Reply.
  6. Save settings.

Important

Quick Reply must be enabled for voicemail to function.

If Quick Reply is disabled:

  • Visitors will not hear a greeting.
  • Voicemail will not be available.
  • Missed calls will not create voicemail recordings.

Adjust Voicemail Volume

  1. Open Device Settings.
  2. Select Audio Settings.
  3. Adjust the How Visitors Hear You setting.
  4. Save changes.

Disable Call Recording

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select the Intercom device.
  3. Open Device Settings.
  4. Select Privacy Settings.
  5. Turn off Call Recording.
  6. Save settings.

  5. Confirm Call Recording is turned on.
  6. Verify Quick Reply is enabled.
  7. Open Device Settings.
  8. Select Voicemail.
  9. Confirm Quick Reply is enabled.

Only Voicemail Messages Are Being Recorded

This is expected behavior.

Recording begins only when:

  • The intercom call is answered
  • A visitor starts leaving a voicemail

Calls are not recorded before either event occurs.

Voicemail Not Working

  1. Open Device Settings.
  2. Select Voicemail.
  3. Verify Quick Reply is enabled.
  4. Save settings.
  5. Test a missed call.

Turn Off Recording Announcement

The spoken recording announcement cannot be disabled separately.

To remove the announcement:

  1. Open Device Settings.
  2. Select Privacy Settings.
  3. Turn off Call Recording.
  4. Save settings.

Expected Outcome

Call recording and voicemail function properly, recordings are saved when supported, visitors can leave voicemail messages, and audio settings are configured according to customer preferences.
