Ring Continuous Live View - Setup, Requirements, and Usage

Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer wants to enable Continuous Live View, verify device compatibility, configure 24/7 Recording, or understand Continuous Live View requirements.

Customer Symptoms

Customer wants to:

  • Enable Continuous Live View
  • View a live camera feed continuously
  • Configure 24/7 Recording
  • Verify device compatibility
  • Understand recording storage limits
  • Resolve Continuous Live View availability issues

What Is Continuous Live View?

Continuous Live View allows customers to continuously monitor compatible Ring cameras through Live View while 24/7 Recording is enabled.

This feature requires:

  • An eligible Ring subscription
  • A compatible Ring device
  • 24/7 Recording enabled
  • Reliable internet connectivity

Requirements

Customer must have:

  • Compatible Ring subscription
  • Compatible Ring device
  • 24/7 Recording enabled
  • Hardwired or plug-in powered device

Device Limit

Continuous Live View supports up to 10 eligible Ring devices at a single location.

Compatible Devices

Continuous Live View is supported on select:

  • Wired Ring Doorbells
  • Indoor Cameras
  • Outdoor Cameras
  • Stick Up Cameras
  • Floodlight Cameras
  • Spotlight Cameras

Verify compatibility within the Ring app if needed.

Configuration Steps

Enable 24/7 Recording

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select the desired device.
  3. Open Device Settings.
  4. Select Video Settings.
  5. Select Recording Mode.
  6. Enable 24/7 Recording.
  7. Configure Audio Streaming and Recording preferences.
  8. Save settings.

Start Continuous Live View

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select the desired camera.
  3. Tap Go Live.
  4. Monitor the live stream continuously.
  5. Tap End Live when finished.

Recording Storage

24/7 video recordings may be stored in the cloud for up to 14 days, depending on subscription features and account settings.

Timeline Events

While Continuous Live View and 24/7 Recording are active, the Timeline may display:

  • Motion Events
  • Person Detection Events
  • Live View Events
  • Linked Device Events

Customers can access the Timeline from the device screen within the Ring app.

End-to-End Encryption Limitation

Continuous Live View and 24/7 Recording are not compatible with End-to-End Encryption.

Before enabling Continuous Live View:

  1. Verify End-to-End Encryption is disabled.
  2. Save changes.
  3. Enable 24/7 Recording.

Troubleshooting Steps

Continuous Live View Not Available

  1. Verify subscription eligibility.
  2. Verify device compatibility.
  3. Confirm 24/7 Recording is enabled.
  4. Confirm the device is hardwired or plug-in powered.
  5. Verify internet connectivity.

Live View Stops Unexpectedly

  1. Check network stability.
  2. Verify device remains online.
  3. Confirm sufficient internet bandwidth.
  4. Restart the Live View session.

24/7 Recording Option Missing

  1. Verify subscription eligibility.
  2. Verify device compatibility.
  3. Confirm End-to-End Encryption is disabled.
  4. Update the Ring app if necessary.

Expected Outcome

Customer successfully enables 24/7 Recording, accesses Continuous Live View, and continuously monitors compatible Ring devices while recordings are stored and event markers appear on the Timeline.
