Ring Live View Widgets - Setup, Customization, and Usage

Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer wants quick access to Ring Live View directly from their smartphone or tablet home screen.

Customer Symptoms

Customer wants to:

• Add a Ring widget to the home screen
• Access Live View without opening the Ring app
• Change which camera appears on a widget
• Create widgets for multiple Ring devices
• Customize Ring home screen widgets

What Are Ring Live View Widgets?

Ring Live View Widgets provide direct access to Live View from a mobile device home screen.

Each widget displays:

• Device name
• Device image
• Quick access to Live View

Supported Devices

• Apple iPhone
• Apple iPad
• Android phones
• Android tablets

Configuration Steps

Add a Live View Widget on iPhone or iPad

1. Press and hold an empty area of the home screen.
2. Wait for icons to enter edit mode.
3. Select Edit.
4. Select Add Widget.
5. Search for Ring.
6. Select the Ring widget.
7. Select Add Widget.
8. Drag the widget to the desired location.
9. Save changes.

Add a Live View Widget on Android

1. Press and hold an empty area of the home screen.
2. Select Widgets.
3. Search for Ring.
4. Select the Ring widget.
5. Press and hold the widget.
6. Drag the widget to the desired location.
7. Select the Ring device to assign to the widget.

Edit a Live View Widget

1. Press and hold the existing widget.
2. Select Edit Widget.
3. Choose a different Ring device.
4. Save changes.
5. Exit widget settings.

Multiple Device Widgets

To access multiple Ring devices from the home screen:

1. Add a separate Ring widget for each device.
2. Assign a different camera or doorbell to each widget.
3. Arrange widgets as desired.

Troubleshooting Steps

Ring Widget Not Available

1. Verify the Ring app is installed.
2. Update the Ring app.
3. Restart the mobile device.
4. Check for operating system updates.
5. Attempt widget setup again.

Live View Does Not Open

1. Verify the Ring device is online.
2. Verify internet connectivity.
3. Open Live View directly within the Ring app.
4. Update the Ring app if necessary.

Wrong Device Appears

1. Edit the widget.
2. Select the correct Ring device.
3. Save changes.
4. Test Live View access again.

Expected Outcome

Customer can launch Live View directly from the home screen of a supported mobile device and quickly access one or more Ring cameras or doorbells without navigating through the Ring app.
