Ring Smart Lighting Devices - Battery Replacement Procedures

Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer needs to replace batteries in a Ring Smart Lighting device or sensor.

Customer Symptoms

Customer reports:

  • Low battery warning
  • Device not responding
  • Smart Lighting device offline
  • Motion Sensor not detecting motion
  • Mailbox Sensor not reporting activity
  • Pathlight not illuminating
  • Spotlight not functioning
  • Floodlight not functioning
  • Steplight not operating properly

Before Replacing Batteries

Before replacing batteries:

  • Verify batteries are new.
  • Replace all batteries at the same time.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Do not mix battery brands.
  • Verify battery orientation matches the device markings.

Warning

Installing batteries incorrectly may damage the device.

Always align the positive (+) and negative (-) battery markings correctly.

Mailbox Sensor Battery Replacement

Required Materials

  • Mailbox Sensor
  • Three (3) AAA batteries

Replacement Steps

  1. Remove the rear cover by pulling the side tabs apart.
  2. Remove the cover.
  3. Install three AAA batteries.
  4. Verify battery orientation matches the markings.
  5. Reinstall the cover.
  6. Mount the Mailbox Sensor back into position.

Motion Sensor Battery Replacement

Required Materials

  • Motion Sensor
  • Three (3) AAA batteries

Replacement Steps

  1. Pull the side tabs outward.
  2. Remove the front cover.
  3. Install three AAA batteries.
  4. Match the flat battery ends with the springs.
  5. Reinstall the cover.
  6. Mount the Motion Sensor back into position.

Steplight Battery Replacement

Required Materials

  • Steplight
  • Three (3) C-Cell batteries
  • Flathead screwdriver

Replacement Steps

  1. Remove the rear screws.
  2. Remove the battery cover.
  3. Store screws safely.
  4. Install three C-Cell batteries.
  5. Match the flat battery ends with the springs.
  6. Reinstall the cover.
  7. Tighten all screws.
  8. Reinstall the Steplight.

Spotlight Battery Replacement

Required Materials

  • Spotlight
  • Four (4) D-Cell batteries

Replacement Steps

  1. Remove the locking screw.
  2. Remove the Spotlight from its mount.
  3. Twist and remove the front cover.
  4. Press the battery compartment release buttons.
  5. Open the compartment.
  6. Install four D-Cell batteries.
  7. Match the flat battery ends with the springs.
  8. Align the compartment arrows.
  9. Close the compartment cover.
  10. Reinstall the Spotlight.
  11. Reinstall and tighten the locking screw.

Pathlight Battery Replacement

Required Materials

  • Pathlight
  • Four (4) D-Cell batteries

Replacement Steps

  1. Press the lock button.
  2. Remove the front cover.
  3. Install four D-Cell batteries.
  4. Insert batteries flat-end first.
  5. Reinstall the cover.
  6. Reattach the Pathlight to the stake until it locks into place.

Floodlight Battery Replacement

Required Materials

  • Floodlight
  • Four (4) D-Cell batteries

Replacement Steps

  1. Twist the Floodlight counterclockwise.
  2. Remove the rear cover.
  3. Install four D-Cell batteries.
  4. Insert batteries flat-end first.
  5. Reinstall the cover.
  6. Twist clockwise until secured.
  7. Reinstall the Floodlight.

Troubleshooting Steps

Device Still Offline After Battery Replacement

  1. Verify all batteries are new.
  2. Verify battery orientation.
  3. Remove and reinstall batteries.
  4. Wait several minutes for the device to reconnect.
  5. Verify device status in the Ring app.

Device Not Powering On

  1. Verify correct battery type.
  2. Verify all batteries were replaced.
  3. Verify battery contacts are clean.
  4. Reinstall batteries and test again.

Low Battery Warning Remains

  1. Refresh the Ring app.
  2. Wait several minutes for status updates.
  3. Verify all batteries are new.
  4. Confirm the correct battery type was installed.

Expected Outcome

The Ring Smart Lighting device powers on normally, reconnects to the Ring app, and resumes normal operation after battery replacement.
