Purpose

Use this procedure when a Ring device is offline, disconnected from Wi-Fi, not recording events, not sending notifications, or cannot access Live View.

Customer Symptoms

Customer reports:

  • Device offline
  • Live View unavailable
  • Motion alerts not working

  • Device repeatedly disconnecting
  • Cannot reconnect to Wi-Fi

Verify Offline Status

Check for any of the following:

  • Offline icon displayed in the Ring app

  • Device Health reporting offline status
  • Offline notifications from Ring

Reconnect the Device

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select the affected device.
  4. Open Device Health.
  5. Select Reconnect Network or Change Network.
  6. Follow the setup prompts.
  7. Verify the device reconnects successfully.

Improve Wi-Fi Connectivity

Power Verification

Battery Devices:

  • Verify battery is charged.
  • Recharge battery if needed.

Hardwired Devices:

  • Verify power source is functioning.
  • Verify transformer or wiring is operating correctly.

Wi-Fi Optimization

  • Move device closer to the router.
  • Move router closer to the device if possible.
  • Connect to a 2.4 GHz network if needed.
  • Reduce distance and obstructions.
  • Consider using a Ring Chime Pro for signal extension.

Alarm Devices

  • Move Base Station closer to sensors.
  • Add Range Extenders if necessary.

Smart Lighting Devices

  • Move the Smart Lighting Bridge closer to connected devices.
  • Verify the Bridge remains within range of the Wi-Fi router.

Device-Specific Recovery

Ring Doorbell Will Not Power On After Battery Drain

  1. Charge using a wall outlet USB charger for at least 30 minutes.
  2. If still unresponsive, perform a factory reset.
  3. Hold the doorbell button during reset for approximately 30 seconds.
  4. Allow the device to restart.

Factory Reset and Re-Setup

If reconnection fails:

  1. Perform a factory reset or power cycle.
  2. Complete the setup process again.
  3. Reconnect the device to Wi-Fi.
  4. Verify Device Health status.

Network Troubleshooting

Restart Network Equipment

  1. Unplug router and modem.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Restore power.
  4. Allow network equipment to fully restart.

Verify Internet Service

  • Confirm internet access is functioning.
  • Perform an internet speed test.
  • Verify adequate upload and download speeds.

Test Alternative Networks

  • Connect to a guest network.
  • Test a 2.4 GHz network.
  • Test another available network if possible.

Firewall and Router Settings

  • Review router firewall settings.
  • Verify network restrictions are not blocking connectivity.

Ring Alarm Base Station Issues

  1. Connect the Base Station directly to the router using an ethernet cable.
  2. Verify connectivity.
  3. If necessary, unregister and set up the Base Station again.

Important

Re-registering a Base Station may require all connected Alarm sensors to be reset and reconnected.

Multiple Router Environments

Multiple routers can cause connectivity issues.

Recommended solutions:

  • Use a single router.
  • Configure bridge mode if multiple routers are required.
  • Consult the internet provider or router manufacturer if needed.

Expected Outcome

The Ring device reconnects successfully, maintains a stable Wi-Fi connection, and resumes Live View, notifications, and event recording functionality.
