Purpose

Use this procedure when a Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera is experiencing performance issues and requires a reboot.

Customer Symptoms

Customer reports:

  • Distorted audio
  • Beeping sounds
  • Missing recordings
  • Inaccessible recordings
  • Pink video
  • Incorrect night vision during daytime
  • Discolored video
  • General device performance issues

What Does a Reboot Do?

A reboot restarts the Ring device without removing settings, recordings, or account information.

Rebooting may help resolve:

  • Audio issues
  • Video issues
  • Connectivity issues
  • Temporary software issues

Reboot Through the Ring App

Requirements

The Ring device must be connected to Wi-Fi.

Configuration Steps

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select the affected device.
  4. Verify the device is online.
  5. Open Device Health.
  6. Scroll to Reboot This Device.
  7. Confirm the reboot.
  8. Allow several minutes for the device to restart.

Alternative Reboot Methods

Battery-Powered Devices

  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Wait several seconds.
  3. Reinsert the battery.
  4. Allow the device to restart.

For models with internal batteries:

  1. Locate the setup button.
  2. Press and hold briefly.
  3. Allow the device to restart.

Hardwired Devices

  1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
  2. Wait several seconds.
  3. Restore power.
  4. Allow the device to restart automatically.

Offline Device Recovery

If the device is offline:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Locate the offline device.
  3. Select the offline notification.
  4. Follow the reconnection instructions.
  5. Restore Wi-Fi connectivity.
  6. Complete the reboot using one of the methods above.

Troubleshooting Steps

Device Will Not Reboot

  1. Verify power is available.
  2. Verify battery charge level.
  3. Verify Wi-Fi connectivity.
  4. Attempt an alternate reboot method.
  5. Perform a power cycle if necessary.

Device Remains Unresponsive

  1. Reboot again.
  2. Verify Device Health status.
  3. Check network connectivity.
  4. Consider a factory reset if appropriate.
