Ring Camera and Smart Lights - Adjust Brightness and Control Lights

Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer wants to adjust light brightness, manually turn lights on or off, or control camera lights and Ring Smart Lights through the Ring app.

Customer Symptoms

Customer wants to:

• Increase light brightness
• Decrease light brightness
• Make camera lights brighter
• Make camera lights dimmer
• Adjust Smart Light brightness
• Turn lights on manually
• Turn lights off manually
• Control lights during Live View
• Improve outdoor lighting visibility
• Customize light output

Adjust Brightness for Ring Camera Lights

Supported Devices

• Floodlight Cameras
• Spotlight Cameras
• Other Ring cameras with adjustable lighting

Change Camera Light Brightness

1. Open the Ring app.
2. Tap the menu (☰).
3. Select Device Settings.
4. Select the camera.
5. Tap Light Settings.
6. Tap Light Brightness.
7. Move the brightness slider:
   • Left = Dimmer
   • Right = Brighter
8. Tap Save.

Adjust Brightness for Ring Smart Lights

Change Smart Light Brightness

1. Open the Ring app.
2. Locate the Smart Light under Devices.
3. Tap the Smart Light.
4. Adjust the Brightness slider.
5. Close the control panel when finished.

Changes are applied immediately.

Turn Camera Lights On or Off Manually

Using the Ring App

1. Open the Ring app.
2. Tap the menu (☰).
3. Select the camera.
4. Tap the Light icon.
5. Toggle:
   • On = Light turns on
   • Off = Light turns off

Turn Smart Lights On or Off Manually

Using the Ring App

1. Open the Ring app.
2. Select the Smart Light under Devices.
3. Tap the Light icon.
4. Toggle:
   • On = Light turns on
   • Off = Light turns off

Control Camera Lights During Live View

Customers can control compatible camera lights while actively viewing Live View.

Turn Lights On or Off During Live View

1. Open the Ring app.
2. Select the camera preview tile.
3. Tap Go Live.
4. Tap the Light icon at the bottom of the screen.
5. Toggle the light:
   • Light ON
   • Light OFF

Changes take effect immediately.

Troubleshooting

Light Brightness Will Not Change

1. Verify the device supports adjustable brightness.
2. Save settings after adjustment.
3. Reboot the device if necessary.
4. Test again.

Light Will Not Turn On

1. Verify the device is online.
2. Check battery level or power source.
3. Test Live View functionality.
4. Reboot the device.
5. Test manual light controls again.

Light Will Not Turn Off

1. Verify no Light Schedule is active.
2. Check Motion-Activated Light settings.
3. Turn off active Linked Device triggers.
4. Test manual controls again.

Brightness Setting Not Available

Brightness controls may only be available on supported Ring cameras and Smart Lights.

Verify the customer's device model supports adjustable brightness.

Expected Outcome

The customer successfully adjusts light brightness, manually controls camera and Smart Lights, and manages lighting directly through the Ring app or during Live View.
