AT&T Wi-Fi - Connect Smart Devices to Your Network

Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer wants to connect a smart device to their AT&T Wi-Fi network.

Customer Symptoms

Customer wants to:

  • Connect a smart home device to Wi-Fi
  • Connect a new device to the internet
  • Set up a smart speaker
  • Set up a smart camera
  • Connect a smart thermostat
  • Connect a smart TV
  • Connect a smart plug
  • Connect a gaming console
  • Connect a printer to Wi-Fi
  • Troubleshoot Wi-Fi setup during device installation

Before You Begin

Verify the customer has:

  • An active AT&T internet connection
  • A working Wi-Fi network
  • The Wi-Fi network name (SSID)
  • The Wi-Fi password
  • The device powered on and ready for setup

If Wi-Fi Information Is Needed

Customer can locate their:

  • Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID)
  • Wi-Fi Password

Using:

  • Gateway label
  • Smart Home Manager
  • Gateway settings page

Connect a Smart Device to Wi-Fi

Step 1: Start Device Setup

  1. Power on the smart device.
  2. Follow the manufacturer's setup instructions.
  3. Open the device's setup menu if required.

Step 2: Open Network Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings on the device.
  2. Select:
    • Network
    • Wi-Fi
    • Internet Settings

(The exact name may vary by device.)

Step 3: Select Wi-Fi Network

  1. Wait for available networks to appear.
  2. Locate the customer's Wi-Fi network name (SSID).
  3. Select the correct network.

Step 4: Enter Wi-Fi Password

  1. Enter the Wi-Fi password.
  2. Verify spelling, capitalization, and special characters.
  3. Select Connect or Join.

Step 5: Confirm Connection

After connection is successful:

  • Device displays Connected
  • Device receives internet access
  • Setup process continues

Troubleshooting

Wi-Fi Network Not Appearing

  1. Confirm Wi-Fi is enabled on the device.
  2. Move the device closer to the gateway.
  3. Restart the device.
  4. Refresh available networks.
  5. Verify the gateway is broadcasting Wi-Fi.

Incorrect Password Error

  1. Verify the Wi-Fi password.
  2. Re-enter the password carefully.
  3. Check capitalization and special characters.
  4. Confirm customer is selecting the correct Wi-Fi network.

Device Will Not Connect

  1. Restart the device.
  2. Restart the AT&T gateway.
  3. Verify internet service is active.
  4. Attempt setup again.
  5. Check device manufacturer requirements.

Weak Signal

  1. Move the device closer to the gateway.
  2. Remove physical obstructions.
  3. Consider using a Wi-Fi extender.
  4. Test connection again.
