Ecobee Thermostat - View and Use Home Energy Reports

Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer wants to access, review, and understand Home Energy Reports in the Ecobee app.

Customer Symptoms

Customer wants to:

  • View Home Energy Reports
  • Check HVAC runtime
  • Review indoor and outdoor temperatures
  • Monitor humidity trends
  • View energy savings information
  • Compare energy usage over time
  • Review energy efficiency scores
  • Compare performance against similar homes

Access Home Energy Reports

  1. Open the Ecobee app.
  2. Select the desired home.
  3. Navigate to Home Energy Reports.
  4. Choose the report category:
    • Runtime
    • Temperature
    • Humidity
    • Savings

Understanding the Home Data Tab

The Home Data tab provides weekly snapshots of:

  • HVAC runtime
  • Indoor temperature
  • Outdoor temperature
  • Indoor humidity
  • Outdoor humidity

Customers can tap any chart to view additional details.

View Runtime Data

Runtime reports show:

  • Heating runtime
  • Cooling runtime
  • Fan runtime
  • Average daily runtime
  • Total runtime

Available views include:

  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Monthly

Use runtime reports to identify unusual HVAC operation or excessive system usage.

View Temperature Data

Temperature reports display:

  • Indoor temperature
  • Outdoor temperature
  • Heating setpoints
  • Cooling setpoints
  • Schedule activity
  • Comfort Settings

Available views include:

  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Monthly

Customers can compare indoor performance against outdoor conditions.

View Humidity Data

Humidity reports display:

  • Indoor humidity
  • Outdoor humidity
  • Humidity trends
  • HVAC operation during humidity changes

Available views include:

  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Monthly

These reports help customers understand how humidity impacts comfort and system performance.

View Energy Savings Information

The Savings tab provides information about:

  • Energy efficiency ranking
  • Runtime savings
  • Community comparisons
  • Home performance trends

Energy Efficiency Score

The Energy Efficiency Score evaluates how efficiently the home maintains temperature.

The score is based on how quickly indoor temperatures change when HVAC equipment is not operating.

Runtime Savings

Runtime Savings compares HVAC runtime against other Ecobee users within the same state or province.

Requirements for Savings Reports

Before Savings reports can generate:

  1. The thermostat must be registered for a full calendar month.
  2. Home Address must be accurate.
  3. Home Details must be completed.

Update Home Information

  1. Open the Ecobee app.
  2. Tap Account.
  3. Select Manage Homes.
  4. Select the desired home.
  5. Verify:
    • Home Address
    • Home Details
  6. Save changes.

Troubleshooting

Savings Tab Not Available

  1. Verify the thermostat has been active for at least one full calendar month.
  2. Verify Home Address is correct.
  3. Verify Home Details are completed.
  4. Refresh the Ecobee app.

Missing Energy Reports

  1. Verify the thermostat is online.
  2. Confirm data collection has been active long enough.
  3. Update the Ecobee app.
  4. Restart the app and reload reports.

Data Appears Incorrect

  1. Verify thermostat schedules.
  2. Verify heating and cooling settings.
  3. Confirm Home Details information is accurate.
  4. Allow additional time for report generation.

Expected Outcome

The customer successfully accesses Home Energy Reports and can review HVAC runtime, temperature trends, humidity levels, energy efficiency scores, and savings information to better understand home energy performance.
