Answer:
SmartThings allows you to add, control, organize, and manage compatible Samsung and Works with SmartThings devices from a single app.
Some devices can connect directly to the SmartThings app, while Zigbee, Z-Wave, and certain LAN-connected devices may require a SmartThings Hub.
Check Supported Devices
To view supported devices in your region:
- Open the SmartThings app.
- Tap Menu (☰).
- Select Supported Devices.
- Browse by Brand or Device Type.
Add a Device
Note:
When opening SmartThings for the first time, you may see an Add Device prompt. If so, tap Add Now.
To manually add a device:
- Open the Devices tab.
- Tap Add (+).
- Choose one of the following options:
• Scan QR Code – Add compatible Samsung devices or supported hub-connected devices.
• Scan Nearby – Search for devices currently in pairing mode.
• Add Samsung Device – Select a Samsung product manually.
• Add Partner Device – Select a supported third-party device.
- Place the device into pairing mode according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Wait for SmartThings to discover and configure the device.
- Tap Done when setup is complete.
View and Control Devices
You and any shared members can control supported devices from anywhere using the SmartThings app.
Access Devices
• Tap Favorites to access favorite devices.
• Tap Devices to view all connected devices.
Edit Device Settings
- Open the device.
- Tap More Options (⋮).
- Select Edit.
- Modify the device name or settings.
- Save your changes.
Create Device Groups
Device Groups allow multiple devices to be controlled together.
Supported Group Types
• Lighting Groups
• Camera Groups
Requirements
• Two or more compatible devices
• Devices must be added to SmartThings
Create a Group
- Open the Devices tab.
- Tap Add (+).
- Select Create Lighting Group or Create Camera Group.
- Enter a group name.
- Select a Room.
- Choose whether to add the group to Favorites.
- Select the devices to include.
- Tap Save.
Edit or Remove a Device
If a device is not functioning correctly, you may need to edit, remove, or reset it.
Edit a Device
- Tap and hold the device.
- Select Edit.
- Update the Name or Room assignment.
- Save changes.
Remove a Device
- Tap and hold the device.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
Important Notes
Z-Wave Devices
• Removing a Z-Wave device places the hub into exclusion mode.
• Follow the manufacturer's reset or exclusion procedure before re-adding the device.
Cloud-Based Devices
• Some cloud-connected devices require removal of the associated Linked Service.
• Removing the device alone may not fully disconnect the integration.
Re-Adding Devices
Some devices must be:
• Factory reset
• Excluded from the network
• Repaired through the manufacturer app
before they can be added again.

• Shared members can control devices but may have limited administrative permissions.
• Favorites provide quick access to frequently used devices.
• Device capabilities vary by manufacturer and model.
• Device Groups allow multiple devices to operate as a single control.
