Answer:

SmartThings supports popular voice assistants, allowing you to control compatible devices using voice commands instead of opening the SmartThings app.

Before connecting a voice assistant to SmartThings, complete setup of the voice assistant and its associated device using the manufacturer's app.

Supported Voice Assistants

• Samsung Bixby
• Google Assistant
• Amazon Alexa

Samsung Bixby

Bixby automatically integrates with SmartThings through your Samsung account.

Once configured, you can control compatible SmartThings devices using voice commands by saying:

"Hi Bixby"

No additional SmartThings linking is typically required when using the same Samsung account.

Connect Google Assistant

Google Assistant can control compatible SmartThings devices including:

• Lights
• Smart plugs
• Thermostats
• Motion sensors
• Contact sensors
• SmartThings routines

Note:

Connecting Google Assistant enables access across all SmartThings locations associated with your account.

To connect Google Assistant:

  1. Open the SmartThings app.
  2. Tap Menu (☰).
  3. Select Voice Assistant.
  4. Select Google Assistant.
  5. Review the instructions.
  6. Tap Open Google Assistant.

  1. Open the SmartThings app.
  2. Tap Menu (☰).
  3. Select Voice Assistant.
  4. Select Amazon Alexa.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. Sign into your Amazon account if prompted.
  7. Authorize SmartThings access.
  8. Discover devices within the Alexa app.

Once linked, Alexa can control compatible SmartThings devices and routines.

Remove a Voice Assistant

If a voice assistant is no longer needed or is not functioning correctly, you can remove it.

  1. Open the SmartThings app.
  2. Tap Menu (☰).
  3. Tap Settings (⚙).
  4. Select Linked Services.
  5. Choose Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.
  6. Tap Uninstall.
  7. Tap Delete.
  8. Confirm removal.

Important:

Samsung Bixby is linked through your Samsung account and cannot currently be removed from SmartThings.
