Answer:

SmartThings Routines automate actions based on conditions such as time, device activity, location changes, or manual activation.

Routines use an IF condition and THEN action structure:

• IF something happens
• THEN SmartThings performs one or more actions

Examples:

• Turn lights on at sunset
• Lock doors when leaving home
• Turn on lights when motion is detected
• Run multiple actions with one button press

View Your Routines

  1. Open the SmartThings app.
  2. Tap Routines from the navigation bar.

Create a Routine

  1. Open Favorites or Routines.
  2. Tap Add (+).
  3. Select Routine.
  4. Tap Add (+) next to IF.
  5. Select the condition that will trigger the routine.

If using multiple conditions:

• Select All Conditions if every condition must be met.
• Select Any Condition if only one condition must be met.

  1. Tap Add (+) next to THEN.
  2. Select the actions SmartThings should perform.
  3. Tap Save.
  4. Enter a routine name.
  5. Tap OK.

Create a Manually Run Routine

Manually Run Routines allow multiple actions to be performed with a single tap.

These routines can be accessed from:

• Favorites
• Routines
• SmartThings widgets
• Supported voice assistants

To create a manually run routine:

  1. Open the Routines tab.
  2. Tap Add (+).
  3. Enter a routine name.
  4. Choose whether to display it in Favorites.
  5. Tap Add (+) next to IF.
  6. Select Manually Run.
  7. Tap Add (+) next to THEN.
  8. Choose the actions to perform.
  9. Tap Save.
  10. Confirm by selecting OK.

Optional:

Tap the Sun icon to change the routine icon.

Edit a Routine

To modify an existing routine:

  1. Open the Routines tab.
  2. Select the routine.
  3. Tap Edit.
  4. Tap Add (+) to add actions or conditions.
  5. Tap Minus (-) to remove actions or conditions.
  6. Tap Save.

Disable a Routine

Disable a routine without deleting it:

  1. Open the routine.
  2. Locate the Enabled/Disabled toggle.
  3. Switch the routine to Disabled.

The routine will remain saved but will not run until re-enabled.

Delete a Routine

To permanently remove a routine:

  1. Open the Routines tab.
  2. Tap and hold the routine.
  3. Select Delete.
  4. Tap Delete again to confirm.

Using Mobile Presence

Location-based routines require Mobile Presence to be enabled.

Examples include:

• Arrive Home routines
• Leave Home routines
• Presence-based automations
• Geofence triggers

Good to Know

• Routines can contain multiple conditions and actions.
• Manual routines can also be triggered by other automations.
• Disabled routines remain available for future use.
• Voice assistants can trigger supported SmartThings routines.
• Location-based routines require location permissions and mobile presence to be enabled.
• Multiple actions can be grouped into a single routine for easier automation.
