Answer:
Locations are the foundation of SmartThings and represent a home, property, or place where your devices, rooms, routines, and services are organized.
You can create multiple Locations, share access with family members, and configure geolocation-based automations.
Switch Between Locations
- Open the SmartThings app.
- Tap the Location Name in the upper-left corner.
- Select the Location you want to access.
Add a New Location
- Open the SmartThings app.
- Tap the Location Name.
- Select Manage Locations (⚙).
- Tap Add (+).
- Select Add New Location.
- Enter the Location details.
- Tap Done.
Remove a Location
Warning:
Removing a Location permanently deletes:
• Devices
• Rooms
• Routines
• Linked Services
To remove a Location:
- Tap the Location Name.
- Select Manage Locations (⚙).
- Choose the Location you want to remove.
- Tap Remove Location.
- Confirm by selecting Remove.
Manage Geolocation
Geolocation enables location-based automations including:
• Sunrise and sunset routines
• Mobile presence detection
• Arrival and departure automations
Edit Geolocation
- Tap the Location Name.
- Select Manage Locations (⚙).
- Select the Location.
- Tap Geolocation.
- Enter an address or move the map pin.
- Adjust the geofence size.
- Tap Save.
Good to Know:
The geofence determines when members are considered Home or Away.
Rooms
Rooms help organize devices into specific areas of your home.
Examples:
• Living Room
• Kitchen
• Bedroom
• Garage
• Office

You can view rooms by swiping left or right on the Devices tab.
Location Modes
Location Modes allow routines to run only under specific conditions.
Common Modes:
• Home
• Away
• Night
Change a Location Mode
- Tap the Location Name.
- Select Manage Locations (⚙).
- Select the Location.
- Tap Location Mode.
- Select the desired mode.
Rename a Mode
- Open Location Mode.
- Tap More Options (⋮).
- Select Edit Name.
- Enter the new name.
- Save your changes.
Linked Places
Linked Places allow multiple geofenced locations to be used for automations.
Examples:
• Home
• Work
• School
• Vacation Property
Add a Linked Place
- Tap the Location Name.
- Select Manage Locations (⚙).
- Select the Location.
- Tap Linked Places.
- Tap Add (+).
- Name the linked place.
- Configure the geofence.
- Tap Save.
Repeat these steps to add up to three linked places.
Good to Know
• Linked Places are available only for users and shared members with Galaxy devices.
• Location Modes can be changed manually or automatically through routines.
• Geolocation is required for many presence-based automations.
• Removing a Location permanently deletes all associated devices and automations.
• Rooms help organize devices but do not affect device functionality.
