Overview

The Google Home app allows you to create, manage, rename, switch between, and delete homes. Creating separate homes helps organize devices, rooms, automations, and household members across multiple properties.

Create a Home

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Add.
  3. Select Home.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to create your home.

Tip: You can create up to five homes under a single Google Account.

Switch Between Homes

If you manage multiple homes:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your Profile Picture or Initial.
  3. Select Switch Home.
  4. Choose the home you want to manage.

Note: If you only have one home, the Switch Home option may not appear.

Rename a Home

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your Profile Picture or Initial.
  3. Select Home Settings.
  4. Tap your current home name.
  5. Select Home Nickname.
  6. Enter the new name.
  7. Tap Save.

Delete a Home

Important: Only the last remaining member of a home can permanently delete it.

If other members still have access, remove them first before deleting the home.

To Delete a Home

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Switch to the home you want to remove.
  3. Tap your Profile Picture or Initial.
  4. Select Home Settings.
  5. Scroll to the bottom.
  6. Tap Delete This Home.
  7. Tap Delete Home to confirm.

What Happens When You Delete a Home?

Deleting a home removes access to devices associated with that home, including:

  • Speakers
  • Displays
  • Cameras
  • Doorbells
  • Lights
  • Thermostats

Additional home-related data may also be removed, including:

  • Camera video history
  • Home settings
  • Thermostat preferences and schedules

Your Google Account and personal Google data are not deleted.

Important Notes

  • Only Home Admins can fully manage homes and settings.
  • Permission changes may take several minutes to update across all devices.
  • Devices removed through home deletion must be set up again before they can be used in a new home.
