Overview
If you use a legacy Nest Account created before August 19, 2019 and have not migrated to a Google Account, you can change or reset your Nest account password through the Nest app or Nest website.
Important: Customers using a Google Account must manage their password through Google Account settings instead.
Verify Which Account Type You Use
Check in the Nest App
- Open the Nest app.
- Tap Settings.
- Look for Migrate to a Google Account.
If this option appears: You are using a legacy Nest Account.
If this option does not appear: You are using a Google Account.
Check Online
- Visit your Google Account permissions page.
- Sign in with your Google Account.
- Check whether Nest appears under Signing in with Google.
If it does, use your Google Account password to access Nest services.
Change Your Nest Account Password
- Open the Nest app.
- Tap Settings.
- Select Account.
- Tap Manage Account.
- Select Account Security.
- Tap Account Password.
- Enter your current password.
- Enter and confirm your new password.
- Tap Save Changes.
Reset a Forgotten Password
- Open the Nest app or visit home.nest.com.
- Select Sign in with Nest.
- Tap Forgot Password.
- Enter your account email address.
- Select Reset Password.
- Check your email for the password reset link.
- Follow the instructions to create a new password.
If 2-Step Verification Is Enabled
You may be required to verify your identity using a security code before you can reset your password.
Follow the prompts provided during the reset process.
Troubleshooting Password Reset Emails
If you do not receive the password reset email:
- Verify you entered the correct email address.
- Confirm you are using a legacy Nest Account and not a Google Account.
- Check your Spam or Junk folder.
- Request another password reset email.
- Wait a few minutes and try again.
- Contact Nest Support if the issue continues.
