Answer:
If you change your Wi-Fi network name, password, or replace your router, you must reconnect your Nest Protect to the new network.
Compatible Devices
• Google Nest Protect (1st Generation)
• Google Nest Protect (2nd Generation)
Reconnect to a New Wi-Fi Network
- Open the Nest app.
- Tap Settings.
- Select your Nest Protect.
- Tap Device Options.
- Select Wi-Fi Connection.
- Tap Next.
- Wait while Nest attempts to connect to your Protect and searches for available Wi-Fi networks.
- Select your new Wi-Fi network.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password.
- Allow the Nest Protect to reconnect.
Once connected, your Nest Protect should automatically resume communication with your Nest account.
Factory Reset and Setup Again
You may need to reset and set up the device again if:
• The Nest Protect will not reconnect to Wi-Fi.
• The new network does not appear.
• The device remains offline after updating Wi-Fi settings.
• Connection attempts repeatedly fail.
After resetting:
- Complete the Nest Protect reset procedure.
- Open the Nest app.
- Add the device again.
- Follow the setup instructions.
- Connect the device to the new Wi-Fi network.
Troubleshooting
• Verify the new Wi-Fi network is working properly.
• Confirm the Wi-Fi password is correct.
• Move closer to the router during setup if possible.
• Restart your mobile device and router.
• Ensure the Nest app is updated to the latest version.
• Perform a factory reset if reconnection continues to fail.
Note: Nest Protect devices must be reconnected whenever Wi-Fi credentials or router hardware changes.
