Answer:

If you change your Wi-Fi network name, password, or replace your router, you'll need to reconnect your Nest thermostat to the new network.

Nest Thermostat (4th Gen) and Nest Thermostat

Important: You must be near the thermostat to update Wi-Fi settings.

Reconnect to a New Wi-Fi Network

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Home.
  3. Select your thermostat.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap Device Information.
  6. Tap Wi-Fi.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the thermostat to your new Wi-Fi network.

Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen and Earlier) & Nest Thermostat E

Reconnect to a New Wi-Fi Network

  1. Press the thermostat ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Turn the ring and select Network.
  4. Select your new Wi-Fi network.
  5. Enter the Wi-Fi password.
  6. Wait for the thermostat to connect.

Factory Reset and Setup Again

You may need to reset and set up the thermostat again if:

• The thermostat will not connect to the new network.
• The Wi-Fi settings cannot be changed.
• The thermostat remains offline after reconnecting.
• Network changes are not saved.

After resetting:

  1. Complete the thermostat reset process.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Tap Add Device.
  4. Follow the setup instructions.
  5. Connect the thermostat to the new Wi-Fi network.

Troubleshooting

• Confirm the new Wi-Fi network is working.
• Verify the Wi-Fi password is correct.
• Move closer to the router if signal strength is weak.
• Restart the thermostat and router.
• Complete a factory reset if connection issues continue.

Note: Nest thermostats must be reconnected whenever Wi-Fi credentials or router hardware changes.
