Understanding Knock Detection

  • Use Two-Way Talk
  • View activity at the door

Procedure

Enable Knock Detection

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select Menu.

  5. Select Device Settings.
  6. Select Knock Detection Settings.
  7. Turn Knock Detection On.

Adjust Sensitivity

  1. Open Knock Detection Settings.
  2. Select Adjust Sensitivity.
  3. Move the slider based on customer needs.

Sensitivity Guidelines

  • Generates more notifications

Higher Setting:

  • Detects stronger knocks only
  • Generates fewer notifications

Door Material Considerations

Different door materials may require different sensitivity settings.

Heavy Doors

Examples:

  • Solid wood
  • Heavy metal

Recommended Action:

  • Increase sensitivity

Lighter Doors

Examples:

  • Fiberglass
  • Steel

Recommended Action:

  • Decrease sensitivity

Troubleshooting

Knock Detection Not Working

  1. Verify Knock Detection is enabled.
  2. Verify protective film has been removed from the device.
  3. Confirm device is online.
  4. Increase sensitivity setting.
  5. Perform a knock test.

Too Many Notifications

  1. Open Knock Detection Settings.
  2. Increase sensitivity threshold.
  3. Test again.
  4. Repeat until acceptable results are achieved.

False Alerts

Some activities may trigger alerts regardless of sensitivity settings, including:

  • Door slamming
  • Heavy impacts to the door
  • Strong vibrations

Testing Knock Detection

  1. Exit the home.
  2. Close the door.
  3. Move away from the door for approximately 30 seconds.
  4. Knock on the door.
  5. Verify notification is received.

If notification is not received:

  1. Adjust sensitivity.
  2. Wait for the device indicator light to stop spinning.
  3. Repeat the test.

Expected Outcome

Customer receives reliable notifications when someone knocks on the door and can adjust sensitivity to reduce missed detections or excessive alerts.
