Ring Event History and Event Summary - Viewing Recorded Activity

Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer wants to review past Ring activity, view recorded events, access the Event Timeline, or view Event Summary information.

Customer Symptoms

Customer wants to:

  • View Event History
  • Review recorded videos
  • Find past motion events
  • View doorbell activity
  • Access the Event Timeline
  • Filter recorded events
  • View Event Summary
  • Review activity across multiple devices
  • Find specific recorded events

Understanding Event History

Event History allows customers to review activity recorded by Ring devices, including motion events, doorbell rings, Live View sessions, and other supported event types.

Customers can:

  • View events for a single device
  • View events for all devices
  • Filter events by device
  • Filter events by event type
  • Review recorded activity

Requirements

Recorded video playback requires:

  • Active Ring subscription
  • Supported Ring device
  • Recorded event stored in Event History

Only events recorded after subscription activation can be viewed.

Video recordings may be stored for up to the customer's configured storage duration.

View Event History for a Single Device

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select the desired device.
  4. Open Event History.
  5. Review available events.

View Event History for All Devices

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select History.
  3. Review all recorded events.
  4. Use filters as needed.

Available filters may include:

  • Device
  • Event Type
  • Location
  • Date

Understanding Event History Timeline

Event History Timeline provides a visual timeline of recorded activity for supported cameras and doorbells.

Timeline markers identify when events occurred.

Customers can quickly move through recordings and review activity from different times throughout the day.

View Event History Timeline

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select the desired camera or doorbell.
  3. Open the camera preview.
  4. End Live View if active.
  5. Review the Event History Timeline.
  6. Slide left or right to review previous events.

Understanding Event Summary

Event Summary provides a simplified overview of activity at a location or device.

Customers can quickly review what occurred without manually searching through all recorded events.

View Event Summary for One Device

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select the desired device.
  4. Open Event History.
  5. Select Event Summary.

View Event Summary for All Devices

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Select History.
  3. Select Event Summary.
  4. Review summarized activity.

Change Locations

If multiple locations exist:

  1. Open the Ring dashboard.
  2. Select the Location menu.
  3. Choose the desired location.
  4. Review Event History or Event Summary for that location.

View Event History on Ring.com

  1. Sign in to Ring.com.
  2. Open Dashboard.
  3. Select History.
  4. Review recorded events.
  5. Apply filters as needed.

Supported Event Types

Event types may vary by device.

Examples include:

  • Answered Rings
  • Missed Rings
  • Motion Events
  • Live View Events
  • Person Detected
  • Package Detected
  • Animal Detected
  • Vehicle Detected
  • Key Delivery
  • Linked Device Events
  • Driving Events
  • Traffic Stop Events

Troubleshooting Steps

Event History Is Empty

  1. Verify the device is online.
  2. Verify an active Ring subscription exists.
  3. Confirm events occurred after subscription activation.
  4. Verify motion detection settings.

Missing Recordings

  1. Verify storage settings.
  2. Verify Event History filters.
  3. Verify motion settings.
  4. Confirm recordings have not expired.

Event Timeline Not Available

  1. Verify subscription eligibility.
  2. Verify the device supports Timeline.
  3. Update the Ring app if necessary.

Wrong Event Times Displayed

The Ring app automatically adjusts event timestamps to the current time zone of the mobile device.

This is normal behavior when traveling.

Expected Outcome

Customer can successfully access Event History, review recorded activity, use the Event Timeline, view Event Summary information, and locate specific events across one or more Ring devices.
