Ecobee Thermostat - Set Up Apple HomeKit Integration

Purpose

Use this procedure when a customer wants to connect an Ecobee thermostat to Apple Home, enable Siri voice control, create HomeKit automations, or remove an existing Apple HomeKit connection.

Customer Symptoms

Customer wants to:

  • Connect Ecobee to Apple Home
  • Use Siri voice commands
  • Create Apple Home automations
  • Add Ecobee to the Home app
  • Pair HomeKit with Ecobee
  • Remove HomeKit integration
  • Troubleshoot Apple Home pairing

Requirements

Before setup, verify:

  • iPhone or iPad is updated to the latest iOS version
  • Ecobee app is updated
  • Ecobee thermostat is connected to Wi-Fi
  • iPhone or iPad is connected to the same Wi-Fi network
  • Ecobee Wi-Fi signal strength is above 75%

Verify Wi-Fi Signal Strength

On Ecobee Smart Thermostats

  1. Open Main Menu.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select About.
  4. Select Wi-Fi.
  5. Verify Signal Strength is above 75%.

Smart Thermostat Lite and Essential

  1. Open Main Menu.
  2. Select About.
  3. Select Wi-Fi.
  4. Verify Signal Strength is above 75%.

Connect Apple Home Using the Thermostat

On the Ecobee Thermostat

Ecobee Smart Thermostats

  1. Open Main Menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select HomeKit.
  4. Select Enable HomeKit Pairing.
  5. Display the HomeKit QR Code.

Smart Thermostat Lite and Essential

  1. Open Main Menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select HomeKit.
  4. Select Enable HomeKit Pairing.
  5. Display the HomeKit QR Code.

In the Apple Home App

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap Add Accessory or the + icon.
  3. Scan the HomeKit QR Code displayed on the thermostat.
  4. Follow the setup prompts.
  5. Assign the thermostat to a room.
  6. Complete setup.

Connect Apple Home Using the Ecobee App

In the Ecobee App

  1. Open the Ecobee app.
  2. Select the thermostat.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Under Integrations, select HomeKit.
  5. Tap Add to HomeKit.
  6. Select the HomeKit Home.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. Bring the phone near the thermostat.

The HomeKit pairing code should appear automatically.

In the Apple Home App

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap Add Accessory or the + icon.
  3. Scan the displayed HomeKit QR Code.
  4. Complete setup.

Connect Using the Apple Home App

If the Code Does Not Appear Automatically

  1. Open the Apple Home app.
  2. Tap Add Accessory or the + icon.
  3. Select Don't Have a Code or Can't Scan.
  4. Review available devices.
  5. Select the Ecobee thermostat.
  6. The pairing code will display on the thermostat.
  7. Scan the code.
  8. Complete setup.

Remove Apple HomeKit Integration

Remove HomeKit from the Thermostat

Ecobee Smart Thermostats

  1. Open Main Menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Reset.
  4. Select Disconnect from HomeKit.

Smart Thermostat Lite and Essential

  1. Open Main Menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Reset.
  4. Select Disconnect from HomeKit.

Remove Ecobee from Apple Home

  1. Open the Apple Home app.
  2. Press and hold the Ecobee thermostat.
  3. Select Details.
  4. Scroll down.
  5. Select Remove Accessory.
  6. Confirm removal.

Troubleshooting

HomeKit QR Code Does Not Appear

  1. Verify Wi-Fi connection.
  2. Confirm both devices are on the same network.
  3. Restart the thermostat.
  4. Restart the iPhone or iPad.

Thermostat Not Found in Apple Home

  1. Verify HomeKit pairing is enabled.
  2. Confirm Wi-Fi signal strength exceeds 75%.
  3. Update the Ecobee app and iOS.
  4. Retry the pairing process.

Pairing Fails

  1. Remove any existing HomeKit connection.
  2. Re-enable HomeKit pairing.
  3. Restart both devices.
  4. Attempt setup again.

Expected Outcome

The Ecobee thermostat successfully connects to Apple Home, allowing Siri voice control, HomeKit automations, scenes, and remote management through the Apple Home app.
