How do I set up Siri and AirPlay on a compatible ecobee thermostat?
Answer:
Siri and AirPlay are available on compatible voice-enabled ecobee thermostats, including Smart Thermostat Premium and SmartThermostat with Voice Control.
Before You Begin
• Siri requires a Smart Thermostat Premium or SmartThermostat with Voice Control.
• A compatible Apple Hub is required. Currently, only HomePod and HomePod mini are supported.
• Your iPhone must be running iOS 15 or later.
• Install the latest versions of the ecobee app and Apple Home app.
I Don't Use Any Voice Assistants or Apple Home
On the thermostat:
- Select Main Menu.
- Select General Settings.
- Select Apple Home.
- Enable Apple Home pairing.
- Scan the QR code using your iPhone.
- Open the Apple Home app.
- Add the thermostat as an accessory.
- Enable Listen for "Hey Siri."
- Return to the thermostat.
- Select the Microphone icon.
- Enable Siri.
I Use Alexa but Not Apple HomeKit
On the thermostat:
- Select Main Menu.
- Select General Settings.
- Select Amazon Alexa.
- Select Unlink from Amazon Alexa.
- Follow the prompts.
- Select Apple Home.
- Enable Apple Home pairing.
- Scan the QR code using your iPhone.
- Open the Apple Home app.
- Add the thermostat as an accessory.
- Enable Listen for "Hey Siri."
- Select the Microphone icon.
- Enable Siri.
I Use Apple HomeKit but Not Alexa
On the thermostat:
- Select Main Menu.
- Select the Microphone icon.
- Enable Siri.
In the Apple Home app:
- Select your thermostat.
- Select the Gear icon.
- Enable Listen for "Hey Siri."
I Use Both Alexa and Apple HomeKit
On the thermostat:
- Select Main Menu.
- Select General Settings.
- Select Amazon Alexa.
- Select Unlink from Amazon Alexa.
- Follow the prompts.
- Select the Microphone icon.
- Enable Siri.
In the Apple Home app:
- Select your thermostat.
- Select the Gear icon.
- Enable Listen for "Hey Siri."
Using Siri
After setup, Siri can be used to:
• Control thermostat settings
• Check temperatures
• Control Apple Home scenes
• Perform supported Siri requests
Enabling AirPlay
AirPlay is not enabled by default.
In the Apple Home app:
- Select your thermostat.
- Scroll to AirPlay Speaker (Beta).
- Enable Listen for "Hey Siri."
You can now stream music and podcasts from supported iPhone and iPad devices.
Changing the AirPlay Device Name
In the Apple Home app:
- Select your thermostat.
- Select the Gear icon.
- Edit the device name.
- Save your changes.
The updated name will appear in AirPlay device lists.
Troubleshooting
Issue:
Siri is unavailable on the thermostat.
Solution:
Verify the thermostat is a Smart Thermostat Premium or SmartThermostat with Voice Control and that a HomePod or HomePod mini is installed in the home.
Issue:
Unable to enable Siri.
Solution:
Confirm Apple Home pairing is complete and Listen for "Hey Siri" is enabled in the Apple Home app.
Issue:
AirPlay does not appear.
Solution:
Open the Apple Home app and verify AirPlay Speaker (Beta) has been enabled for the thermostat.
Notes:
• Siri and Alexa cannot be active simultaneously on the thermostat.
• Alexa must be unlinked before enabling Siri.
• AirPlay supports multiroom audio through Apple's AirPlay controls.
• The AirPlay device name is managed through the Apple Home app.
