How do I connect my thermostat to Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi configuration on the ecobee is part of the thermostat's initial setup process. If you've skipped this step or need to change the Wi-Fi network the ecobee connects to, follow the steps below.

On the ecobee Thermostat

  1. Go to Main Menu > General Settings > Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Verify Wi-Fi Radio is Enabled.
  3. Tap Network.
  4. Choose either an iOS device or manually select your Wi-Fi network.
  5. If not using an iOS device, tap Select Wi-Fi Network.
  6. Select your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. Enter your Wi-Fi password.
  9. Tap Connect.
  10. Wait for the success message and tap OK.

For Smart Thermostat Lite and Essential Owners

  1. Go to Main Menu > Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Verify Wi-Fi Radio is Enabled.
  3. Tap Network.
  4. Select your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.

  6. Enter your Wi-Fi password.

• Smart Thermostat Premium, Smart Thermostat Enhanced, and SmartThermostat with voice control are the only 5GHz compatible thermostats.

How do I use an iOS device to set up Wi-Fi?

On the ecobee Thermostat

  1. Go to Main Menu > General Settings > Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Highlight Connect with HomeKit.
  4. Tap Next.
  5. Leave the instructions screen open.

On your iOS device

  1. Open Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Select the ecobee serial number.
  3. Choose the Wi-Fi network you want the thermostat to use.

If prompted with "ecobee is a Home accessory. Do you want to add it to your Wi-Fi network and home?"

  1. Tap Add to Home & Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap More Options.
  3. Select your ecobee by serial number.
  4. Enter the 8-digit HomeKit setup code displayed on the thermostat.

The thermostat will display a "Successfully connected to ecobee.com" message when setup is complete.
