On the ecobee App
- Open the ecobee app.

- Open System Mode.
- Select Auto.
How Auto Heat/Cool Works
When Auto mode is enabled, ecobee manages both heating and cooling automatically.
The thermostat displays:
- Cooling setpoint (Blue)
- Heating setpoint (Orange)
Cooling Operation
If the indoor temperature rises above the cooling setpoint:
- The cooling system turns on.
- The thermostat cools the home to the desired temperature.
Heating Operation
If the indoor temperature falls below the heating setpoint:
- The heating system turns on.
- The thermostat heats the home to the desired temperature.
Heat/Cool Minimum Delta
The Heat/Cool Minimum Delta is the minimum temperature difference allowed between the heating and cooling setpoints.
Default Setting
- 5°F (2.8°C)
Adjustable Range
- Minimum: 2°F (1.1°C)
- Maximum: 10°F (5.5°C)
This setting prevents heating and cooling from operating too close together.
Adjust Heat/Cool Minimum Delta
On Smart Thermostat Premium or Enhanced
- Select Main Menu.
- Select General Settings.
- Select Settings.
- Select Installation Settings.
- Select Thresholds.
- Select Heat/Cool Min Delta.
- Choose the desired temperature difference.
On Smart Thermostat Lite or Essential
- Select Main Menu.
- Select Settings.
- Select Installation Settings.
- Select Thresholds.
- Select Heat/Cool Min Delta.
- Choose the desired temperature difference.
Important Notes
- Auto mode requires both heating and cooling equipment to be properly configured.
- The thermostat will automatically switch between heating and cooling as needed.
- A larger Heat/Cool Delta reduces system cycling.
- A smaller Heat/Cool Delta provides tighter temperature control.
