Ecobee – How Alexa Works When Your Thermostat Is in Auto Mode

Overview

When your ecobee thermostat is operating in Auto Mode, you can still use Alexa voice commands to adjust the temperature.

Alexa automatically adjusts both the heating and cooling setpoints while maintaining the required temperature range between them.

Using Alexa in Auto Mode

You can ask Alexa:

"Alexa, set [Thermostat Name] to [Temperature] degrees."

Example:

"Alexa, set Living Room Thermostat to 72 degrees."

What Happens After the Command

When Alexa receives the command, ecobee does not set a single temperature.

Instead, ecobee adjusts:

• Heating setpoint
• Cooling setpoint

The requested temperature becomes the midpoint between the two setpoints.

This allows Auto Mode to continue switching automatically between heating and cooling while maintaining the desired comfort range.

Example

If you say:

"Alexa, set the thermostat to 72 degrees."

ecobee will automatically position the heating and cooling setpoints around 72°F while maintaining the minimum Heat/Cool Delta configured on the thermostat.

The exact heating and cooling temperatures may vary depending on your current Heat/Cool Minimum Delta setting.

Important Notes

• Auto Mode must already be enabled on the thermostat.
• Alexa can adjust temperatures without disabling Auto Mode.
• Heating and cooling setpoints remain separate while operating in Auto Mode.
• The thermostat will continue automatically switching between heating and cooling as needed.
• The Heat/Cool Minimum Delta setting still applies when Alexa changes the temperature.
