Customer Question:
Can I arm and disarm my ecobee Smart Security system using Alexa?

Answer:
Yes. With ecobee Smart Security, you can create a 4-digit voice code that allows trusted individuals to arm and disarm your home using Alexa voice commands.

Setting Up a Voice Code

In the Alexa app:

  1. Select Devices.
  2. Select the All Devices card.
  3. Select your Home (identified by a shield icon).
  4. Enable Disarm-by-voice.
  5. Create a 4-digit voice code when prompted.

This code will be required when disarming your home using Alexa.

Arming Your Home

To arm your home in Stay mode, say:

"Alexa, set to Arm Stay."

To arm your home in Away mode, say:

"Alexa, set to Arm Away."

Alexa will request your voice code before completing the action.

Finding Your Home Name

Your Home Name is the name assigned to your home in the ecobee app.

You can also find it in the Alexa app:

  1. Open Alexa.
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select the All Devices card.
  4. Locate your Home with the shield icon.

Troubleshooting

Issue:
Alexa cannot find my home.

Solution:
Verify that ecobee Smart Security is connected to Alexa and that your Home appears under Devices with a shield icon.

Issue:
Alexa asks for a code when arming or disarming.

Solution:
This is normal behavior. Alexa requires the 4-digit voice code for Smart Security commands.

Notes:

• A 4-digit voice code is required for Alexa Smart Security commands.
• Only trusted individuals should be given the voice code.
• Your Home Name is configured in the ecobee app.
