Sensor participation allows your ecobee thermostat to include temperature readings from SmartSensors placed throughout your home when calculating the average temperature.

• Including readings from multiple SmartSensors throughout your home provides a more accurate temperature reading.

How Sensor Participation Affects Your Comfort Settings

Your ecobee thermostat uses Comfort Settings such as:

• Home
• Away
• Sleep

You can also create custom Comfort Settings using the ecobee app.

By choosing which sensors participate in each Comfort Setting, you control which temperature readings are used when the thermostat calculates the average temperature.

On the ecobee Thermostat

1. Go to Main Menu > General Settings > Comfort Settings.
2. Select the Comfort Setting you want to adjust.
3. Select Sensor Participation.
4. Select the sensors you want to participate.

For Smart Thermostat Lite and Essential Owners

1. Go to Main Menu > Comfort Settings.
2. Select the Comfort Setting you want to adjust.
3. Select Sensor Participation.
4. Select the sensors you want to participate.

On the ecobee App

1. Select the thermostat.
2. Open Menu.
3. Select Comfort Settings.
4. Select the Comfort Setting you want to adjust.
5. Select Sensor Participation.
6. Select the sensors you want to participate.

Good to Know

• During a Manual Hold, the thermostat follows the Sensor Participation rules for the Home Comfort Setting.
• When a sensor starts or stops participating, its temperature readings are gradually added to or removed from the average temperature calculation over a 30-minute transition period.
• Any sensor can be included or excluded from a Comfort Setting, including the thermostat's built-in sensor.
• Participating sensors appear highlighted in the Sensor menu and the ecobee app.
