This article will guide you through pairing your SmartSensor and provide recommendations for optimal placement throughout your home.
To Pair a SmartSensor
On the ecobee App:
- Tap the + sign on the Home screen.
- Tap Add a Device.
- Select Room Sensor.
- Select SmartSensor.
- Tap Let's Get Started.
- Scan the QR code on the sensor's pull tab.
- If needed, manually enter the pairing code.
- Pull the tab to begin pairing.
- Ensure the SmartSensor is at least 24 inches away from the ecobee thermostat during pairing.
- Select a name from the list or create a custom name.
- Select the thermostat you want to pair the sensor with.
- Select the Comfort Settings in which the sensor will participate.
- Review the placement recommendations.
- Tap Next.
- Tap Done or Add Another Device.
To Unpair a SmartSensor or Room Sensor
On the Thermostat:
- Go to Main Menu > General Settings > Sensors.
- Select the sensor you want to remove.
- Select the Trash icon.
- Select Unpair.
For Smart Thermostat Lite and Essential Owners
- Go to Main Menu > Sensors.
- Select the sensor you want to remove.
- Select the Trash icon.
- Select Unpair.
Good to Know
• SmartSensor uses a 3-volt CR2477 battery.
• Battery life is up to 5 years.
• SmartSensor is not compatible with CR2477N batteries.
• During pairing, the SmartSensor must be at least 24 inches away from the thermostat.
How to Place a SmartSensor in Your Home
Placement on a Table, Shelf, or Open Surface
Height
• Position the sensor approximately four feet above the floor.
Direct Sunlight
• Avoid direct sunlight.
Exterior Walls and Windows
• Keep the sensor away from exterior walls and windows.
Vents, Fans, and Drafts
• Avoid placement near vents, fans, or drafty areas.
Electrical Devices
• Keep the sensor away from TVs, lamps, and the ecobee thermostat.
Wall-Mounted Placement
Selecting the Location
• Choose an interior wall approximately five feet above the floor.
Avoid Vents and Windows
• Do not place the sensor near vents or windows.
Cleaning the Surface
• Clean the wall surface before mounting.
Attachment Options
Adhesive Mount
• Press the adhesive mount firmly against the wall for approximately 10 seconds.
Screw Mount
• Use a #4-22 flat head Phillips screw (not included).
• Recommended screw length is 1 inch.
• Mount through drywall as needed.
