Category: myQ > Network & Wi-Fi
Answer:
myQ devices require a properly configured Wi-Fi network to connect and remain online. If setup fails or devices frequently disconnect, review the requirements below.
Before You Change Router Settings
Try these common fixes first:
- Restart the router.
- Restart your mobile device.
- Verify the myQ device has power.
- Move closer to the router during setup.
- Turn off Mobile Data during setup.
- Retry the setup process.
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Required
Most myQ garage door openers and hubs only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
Supported:
• 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
Not Recommended:
• 5 GHz only networks
If your router broadcasts separate networks:
• Connect to the 2.4 GHz network.
If your router combines both bands:
• Verify 2.4 GHz remains enabled.
Wi-Fi Network Must Be Visible
Your network name (SSID) must be broadcast and visible.
Verify:
- Open Wi-Fi settings on your phone.
- Confirm your network appears in the available network list.
If the network is hidden:
- Log into your router.
- Enable SSID Broadcast or Network Visibility.
Wi-Fi Signal Strength
Weak Wi-Fi signals can prevent setup and cause devices to disconnect.
Recommendations:
• Install the hub within Wi-Fi range.
• Reduce walls and obstructions.
• Avoid placing hubs near metal objects.
• Move the router closer if necessary.
Recommended Security Settings
Preferred:
• WPA3 Personal
• WPA2 Personal
Avoid:
• WPA/WPA2 Mixed Modes
• WPA2 Enterprise
• WPA3 Enterprise
Wireless Mode
Supported:
• 802.11 b/g/n
Avoid:
• 802.11ac Only Mode
DHCP Must Be Enabled
DHCP allows the router to automatically assign IP addresses.
Verify DHCP is enabled in your router settings.
MAC Address Filtering
MAC filtering may block myQ devices.
If MAC filtering is enabled:
• Disable filtering, or
• Add the myQ device to the approved device list.
Wi-Fi Channel Settings
Recommended:
• Auto Channel Selection
If connection problems continue:
Use one of the following channels:
• Channel 1
• Channel 6
• Channel 11
Port Requirements
myQ requires TCP Port 8883 for communication.
If the device connects to Wi-Fi but not the myQ service:
- Verify TCP Port 8883 is open.
- Confirm the router or firewall is not blocking the port.
- Contact your Internet Service Provider if necessary.
LED Status Indicators
Blinking Blue and Green
Meaning:
• Attempting to connect to Wi-Fi.
Actions:
• Verify Wi-Fi credentials.
• Confirm 2.4 GHz network.
• Move closer to the router.
• Restart the router.
Blinking Green
Meaning:
• Connected to Wi-Fi but unable to reach myQ servers.
Actions:
• Restart the router.
• Verify internet connectivity.
• Check firewall and port settings.
Solid Green
Meaning:
• Connection successful.
• No action required.
Good to Know
• myQ devices require a strong 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal.
• Hidden Wi-Fi networks can prevent successful setup.
• DHCP must remain enabled.
• TCP Port 8883 must be available for server communication.
• WPA2 Personal and WPA3 Personal provide the best compatibility.
• Open-source router firmware compatibility cannot be guaranteed.
