Proper placement of Google Wifi, Nest Wifi, and Nest Wifi Pro devices is critical for strong Wi-Fi coverage and reliable mesh network performance.

Poor placement can lead to:

  • Weak signal strength

  • Failed mesh tests
  • Unreliable smart home devices

The goal is to maintain strong communication between all Wifi devices while extending coverage throughout the home.

Place the Primary Router

The primary router should:

Option 1: Reposition Within the Same Room

Move the point:

  • Higher off the floor
  • Away from obstructions

Option 2: Move to a Different Room

If needed:

  • Move the point closer to another point
  • Keep points within two rooms of each other
  • Retest after moving

After setup or relocation:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Access your Wifi network.

This alert indicates that a point has maintained poor signal strength for an extended period.

  1. Move the point closer to another point or router.

  3. Run another mesh test.
