Overview
The Broadcast feature lets you send voice messages to compatible Google Nest and Google Home speakers and displays throughout your home. Broadcasts can be sent from another speaker, display, or your mobile device using Google Assistant.
This feature is useful for announcing meals, bedtime, departures, arrivals, reminders, and other household messages.
Requirements
Before using Broadcast, ensure:
- Two or more Google Nest or Google Home speakers or displays are set up.
- Devices are connected and online.
- Devices are linked to the same Google Account.
- Do Not Disturb is turned off.
- Digital Wellbeing restrictions are not blocking broadcasts.
Send a Broadcast to Your Entire Home
Using Voice Commands
Say:
"Hey Google, broadcast [your message]."
Examples:
- "Hey Google, broadcast dinner is ready."
- "Hey Google, broadcast we're leaving in 10 minutes."
- "Hey Google, broadcast please come downstairs."
Your message will play on all eligible Google Nest and Home devices in the home.
Send a Broadcast to a Specific Room
Voice Command
Say:
"Hey Google, broadcast to [room name] [message]."
Example:
- "Hey Google, broadcast to the living room, it's time to start homework."
Note: Room-specific broadcasting is currently available in English.
Send a Broadcast to a Specific Device
Voice Command
Say:
"Hey Google, broadcast to [device name] [message]."
Example:
- "Hey Google, broadcast to kitchen display, is dinner ready?"
The message is delivered only to the selected device.
Broadcast from Your Phone
You can also send broadcasts using Google Assistant on your mobile device.
Requirements
- Google Home app installed
- Google Assistant enabled
- Same Google Account used on speakers and displays
Note
Your phone does not need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Google Nest devices.
Common Preset Broadcast Messages
Google Assistant recognizes several preset announcements.
Meal Announcements
- Breakfast is ready
- Lunch is ready
- Dinner is ready
- Dinner is served
Arrival and Departure
- I'm home
- I'm here
- I'm on the way
- I'll be home soon
- Time to leave
Family Activities
- Movie time
- TV time
- Bedtime
- Wake up everyone
These preset announcements may play special sounds or spoken messages on compatible devices.
Reply to a Broadcast
After receiving a broadcast, household members can send a reply.
Voice Command
Say:
"Hey Google, reply [message]."
Example:
- "Hey Google, reply I'll be there in a minute."
Replies are sent only to the device that originally started the broadcast.
Voice Match and Broadcasts
Broadcast messages can be sent by:
- Household members
- Voice Match users
- Guests
Voice Match is not required to send a broadcast.
Troubleshooting
Broadcast Not Playing
Verify:
- Devices are powered on.
- Devices are online.
- Devices use the same Google Account.
- Do Not Disturb is disabled.
- Digital Wellbeing settings are not blocking broadcasts.
Broadcast Only Plays on Some Devices
Check:
- Devices are connected to Wi-Fi.
- Devices are properly linked in Google Home.
- Devices are assigned to the same home.
Cannot Reply to Broadcast
Replies only work immediately after receiving a broadcast and are sent back to the originating device.
