Overview

The Google Home app allows you to add, remove, move, and rename smart home devices. This includes Google devices, Matter-enabled devices, and supported third-party smart home products.

Add a Device

Before You Begin

  • Make sure the device is plugged in and powered on.
  • If the device is not Matter-enabled, complete setup in the manufacturer's app first.

Add a Device

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Add.
  3. Select Device.
  4. If prompted, tap Set Up or Next.
  5. Scan the device QR code.

Alternative Setup Methods

If you cannot scan the QR code:

  1. Tap Add a Different Way.
  2. Search for the device or manufacturer.
  3. Select the device.

For third-party devices:

  1. Select the manufacturer.
  2. Tap Link App or Check for Devices.
  3. Follow the prompts.

Wait for the Home app to connect to the device. Once complete, a confirmation message will appear.

  2. Tap Home → All Devices.
  3. Touch and hold the device.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Select Remove Device.

Important

Google Wifi devices must be factory reset instead of removed through the standard device removal process.

  2. Switch to the home containing the device.
  3. Tap Home → All Devices.
  4. Touch and hold the device.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Home → All Devices.
  3. Touch and hold the device.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Select Device Information → Name.
