Firewall Protection
Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi include a built-in stateful firewall.
The firewall monitors network traffic and only allows data associated with active, approved connections to pass through.
This helps protect your network from:
- Unauthorized connection attempts
- Unwanted internet traffic
- Common network attacks
Important
Features such as:
- Port Forwarding
- Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)
can create direct access paths through the firewall and may reduce overall network security.
Only enable these features when necessary.
WPA2 and WPA3 Wi-Fi Security
Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi secure wireless connections using WPA2 encryption and support WPA3 Transition Mode.

Enable WPA3 Transition Mode

When WPA3 is enabled:
- Your network will restart.
- Connected devices will temporarily disconnect.
- Some older WPA2-only devices may experience connection issues.
Unsupported Legacy Security Protocols
Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi do not support:
- WEP
- WPA
- WPS
These technologies are considered outdated and less secure.
Google disables support for these protocols to help protect your network.
Automatic Security Updates
Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi automatically install software updates.
