Google Wifi – Receive Notifications When New Devices Join Your Network

Overview

Google Home can notify you whenever a new device connects to your Google Nest Wifi or Google Wifi network.

These notifications help you:

• Monitor devices joining your network
• Identify unauthorized connections
• Improve network security
• Keep track of new phones, tablets, computers, and smart devices

Note: This feature is only available in the Google Home app.

Turn New Device Notifications On or Off

1. Open the Google Home app.
2. Tap your Profile Picture or Initial.
3. Select Home Settings.
4. Tap Notifications.
5. Select Wi-Fi Notifications.
6. Turn New Device Notifications on or off.

Once enabled, you'll receive alerts when newly detected devices connect to your network.

What to Do If You See an Unknown Device

If a device joins your network that you do not recognize, take action immediately.

Option 1: Pause Internet Access

1. Open the Google Home app.
2. Select Wi-Fi.
3. Locate the device.
4. Pause internet access.

Note: The device may still communicate with other devices on the local network but will not be able to access the internet.

Option 2: Use a Guest Network

For visitors and temporary devices:

1. Open the Google Home app.
2. Navigate to Wi-Fi Settings.
3. Create or enable a Guest Network.
4. Connect visitor devices to the guest network instead of your primary network.

This helps separate guest devices from your personal devices.

Option 3: Change Your Wi-Fi Password

If you suspect unauthorized access:

1. Open the Google Home app.
2. Go to Wi-Fi Settings.
3. Change your Wi-Fi password.
4. Reconnect trusted devices using the new password.

Important: Changing the Wi-Fi password disconnects all devices until they are updated with the new password.

✔ Review connected devices regularly

✔ Use a Guest Network for visitors

✔ Remove unknown devices immediately

✔ Enable WPA3 security when supported
