Issue
While setting up a Google Nest speaker, display, Chromecast, or streaming device, you may receive the following message:
"This device is already linked to a user. Factory reset the device to change configuration."
This typically occurs when the device was previously connected to another Google account and has not been reset.
Why This Happens
Google devices include security protections designed to help prevent unauthorized access to personal information.
If a device was previously owned, configured, or linked to another account, it must be reset before it can be connected to a new account or Wi-Fi network.
