Issue
During setup or when changing Wi-Fi settings, you may receive the following message:
"This device is already linked to a user. Factory reset the device to change configuration."
This usually means the device was previously connected to another Google account and has not been reset.
Why This Error Appears
Google Nest devices are designed to protect personal information stored on the device.
If the device was previously owned, configured, or linked to another account, it must be reset before it can be connected to a different account or network.

Resolution
To continue setup, perform a factory reset on the affected device.
Important: A factory reset permanently removes all device settings, account information, and stored data.

Factory Reset Steps
- Identify the device model.
- Perform the factory reset procedure for that device.
- Wait for the reset process to finish.
- Open the Google Home app.
- Start device setup again.
- Connect the device to Wi-Fi.
- Add the device to your Google account.
After the Reset
Once the reset is complete:
✓ Previous account information is removed.
✓ Wi-Fi settings are cleared.
✓ Device setup can be completed with a new account.
✓ The device can be added to a new Google Home environment.
