Overview

Many Google Home setup, connection, and device discovery issues occur when a phone, tablet, or Google device is connected to a different Wi-Fi network.

For device setup and management, your mobile device and Google device should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Android

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Network & Internet.
  3. Tap Internet.
  4. Locate the network marked Connected.

Common Symptoms of a Network Mismatch

  • Device setup fails
  • Device appears offline
  • Device cannot be discovered
  • Casting does not work
  • Smart home controls fail
  • Automations do not respond correctly

Special Note for Pixel Tablet Charging Speaker Dock

The Charging Speaker Dock does not maintain its own separate Wi-Fi connection.

To determine the network being used:

  1. Check the Wi-Fi connection of the attached Pixel Tablet.
  2. Verify the tablet is connected to the correct network.

Best Practices

✓ Keep mobile devices and Google devices on the same Wi-Fi network.

✓ Verify network names before troubleshooting other issues.

✓ Avoid connecting devices to guest networks unless intended.

✓ Recheck Wi-Fi settings after router changes.
